Adding altogether means we will count all the objects in both the boxes
In the figure below first box has 2 rats and second box has 6 rats and counting all the rats we have 8 rats in third box.
So we can say that
2 + 6 = 8
Similarly
3 + 4 = 7
In the figure below first box has 3 rats and second box has 4 rats and counting all rats we have 7 rats in third box.
